frequently asked questions

We are here to help our viewers and potential customers get the most from the channel.

Through the links below you might be able to get an instant answer to your problem or query, so look here first, but if not you will be able to get in touch with us for the answer or to give us your opinion of a programme or the channel, by clicking here.

1. Will you show EASTENDERS?

We will not be showing EASTENDERS on BBC Entertainment. Although the series gained a small and loyal audience since starting in Asia, a decision has been made to remove it from the new BBC Entertainment schedule. After airing the programme on BBC Prime, at various points in the schedule to try and appeal to viewers, its ratings remained disappointing. BBC Global Channels has to pay market rates for all of its programming - including EastEnders - and cannot keep a show on indefinitely if it is failing audiences. With the end of BBC Prime and launch of BBC Entertainment taking place in October this appeared to be the most appropriate time to cease screening the series.

2. Will you show CASUALTY?

We do not show CASUALTY on BBC Entertainment. Instead we will be showing some brand new programmes which we hope will appeal to a far wider audience and for more information about the new programming please check the listings on the website.

3. Can you explain your repeat pattern?

Programmes are repeated for various reasons. Cable and satellite channels do tend to repeat their programmes. BBC Entertainment is available throughout Asia, and most people who receive the channel have access to up to 50 channels or so - BBC Entertainment being just one of them. Research constantly tells us that viewers will 'channel hop' between channels, rather than watch any one channel for a period of time as they may tend to do in the UK (although that, too, is changing) so the programmes are repeated on different days to make them accessible to as many viewers as possible. That said, we show around 2,500 hours of programming new to the channel every year, and our repeat pattern is far lower than many of our competitor pan-regional channels. As BBC Entertainment grows we are doing all we can to improve the range of programmes, to introduce a higher number of new programmes and to reduce the level of repeats - and we're committed to continue doing so.

4. What is the reason for including older programmes in the schedule?

For the majority of our viewers, this is the first chance to see these programmes, and often the only way to view them. However, it is likely that British people currently overseas will have already seen some of our programmes - but there is also plenty of fresh and recent programming on the channel.
